Great British Summer Crumble

 Prep time 5 mins

Cook time 25 mins

 20ml of milk

Filling of choice (recommend apples or pears)

1 box of Greens Crumble Mix 

1 packet of Birds Instant Custard


Pre-heat your oven to 210C/425F. Prepare your fruit filling and transfer to a 2 pint (1L) baking dish. With a spoon, mix the Greens Crumble with 20ml (4 teaspoons) of cold milk, until it is moistened.

Spoon the crumble topping over your filing and bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes.

Great British Shortcrust Pastry

Great for pies, pasties, and tart shells.

1 lb Homepride, or Mcdougalls Self raising flour

5 oz shortening

5 oz butter

pinch salt

1 egg


Put the flour in a bowl with the salt. Gently rub in the fats. Don’t overwork. Make a well, Crack 1 egg into the middle and 1/8th cup water. Gently incorporate (fold lightly) until only just together. Rest dough for a few minutes, before rolling.

When rolling out don’t push and overwork it. Just lightly shape into a round, and roll with minimum flour. Brush away excess flour from the trim pieces, and stack before rolling, out lightly again. If you are gentle all the way through the process the pastry is incredible light and fluffy. For a sweet pastry add 1 oz of our Tate and Lyle Castor sugar per 1 lb of flour.
